As far ahead as you can, particularly for spring and fall walleye, sturgeon, and anything in October. Those windows fill first. That said, it is always worth calling about a short-notice date — cancellations happen and Jamison would rather run the trip than sit on it.

Always. It is your group and your captain, never a shared boat with strangers.

The Warrior fishing boat takes up to three guests. The 32′ Sun Tracker cruiser takes up to six. Which boat you are on depends on the trip you book.

Genuinely, yes. Jamison started fishing at four years old and volunteers at youth fishing clinics around the valley. He is patient with tangles and happy to spend a whole day on crappie if that is what keeps a nine-year-old grinning. Children must be supervised by their adult aboard.

Say so when you book. It does not make the trip worse — it changes the plan for the better. Jamison will pick water and a target that gives a first-timer real action rather than a long wait.

Fishing trips launch from The Beach House Marina, 101 Lake Cir, Bayport. Park next door at Lakeside Park and walk over — the marina lot fills up in summer. Cruises and tours leave from Boomsite Marina, 9369 St Croix Trail N, Stillwater, where there is parking on site. Your exact spot and time are confirmed when you book.

Your captain has sole discretion to delay, shorten or cancel a trip for safety — storms, lightning, high or low water, wind, ice conditions or mechanical trouble. That call is not negotiable and it is made in the interest of everyone aboard. Rain alone is usually not a reason to cancel; fish often bite well in it, so dress for it.

Nobody can promise that, and anyone who does is selling something. What Jamison promises is that he will put in the work to find them — picking the water, the bait and the hour to match what you came for. Thirty years on these rivers is what tilts the odds.

Within state limits, yes, with two exceptions we hold to regardless of regulations: every sturgeon goes back, no exceptions, and walleye over 23 inches are released.

Depends on the trip. The 2020 Warrior V2090 is a 20′ fishing rig with a 200hp Yamaha, GPS, fish finder, VHF radio, wireless trolling motor and a livewell. The 32′ Sun Tracker cruiser has an enclosed cabin with air conditioning and heat, a restroom and a galley.

Yes. Everyone fishing needs a valid Minnesota or Wisconsin license, depending on the water. It is not included in the trip and getting it is up to you — Jamison will tell you which one you need for your date.

On guided boat trips, yes: rods, reels, tackle, live bait where it applies, and a cooler with ice. Ice fishing works differently — see the ice fishing question below.

Your license, polarized sunglasses and a hat, non-spray sunscreen, and clothes for the weather that is actually forecast rather than the weather you hoped for. Food and drinks for your group. Layers help; the river runs cooler than shore.

Alcohol is permitted in moderation on trips where it is allowed, and guests need to stay in control of themselves. No glass containers on any vessel. If you want everyone to be able to relax, ask about the sober captain service for your own boat.

Aerosol sunscreen drifts onto the deck and makes it slippery, and it is hard on the boat's surfaces. Lotion works just as well and nobody goes over.

Differently from the rest. Rather than putting you on his boat, Jamison travels to you, and the day is as much instruction as it is catching. He brings the tackle and bait he thinks the day calls for; you bring your own gear and electronics, and he shows you how to actually use them — reading your unit, running LiveScope, and working out how your lake sets up. Travel is available within roughly 100 miles. Call to talk through the details for your lake.

You have your own boat and a group aboard, and Jamison runs it for the day. A licensed Master Captain at the helm means the person operating the boat is trained, sober and watching traffic, weather and the channel — while you and your guests get to actually be guests.

No. Fall color tours and beach days are about being on the river rather than catching anything. If you want both, say so when you book and Jamison will tell you what is realistic for your group and your dates.

Usually late September into October, but it moves by a week or two each year depending on the season. Jamison watches it closely, so ask him when he thinks it will turn. October dates book out early.

Give as much notice as you can. A booked date means turning away other customers, so late cancellations and no-shows may forfeit a deposit. Exact terms are confirmed when you book. If we cancel for weather or safety before the trip starts, you can reschedule or have your money back.

No. Tipping your captain is never expected and always appreciated.
